Ladybarn House in Manchester, owned by Accrue Student Housing, selected rischegroup to design and modify its existing building to create 60 luxury en-suite rooms and studios, alongside kitchens and common rooms for exclusive student accommodation.
We took on Accrue’s brief to create luxury student living within the heart of the city centre by bringing the old, existing rooms up to specification. The significant refurbishment project was rolled out on a phased basis to allow continued occupation of the building, and as much of the work was conducted while the building was occupied, the safety and well-being of the residents was paramount.
Our rischegroup team was excited when tasked with remodeling this already popular student accommodation into a diverse range of mixed-use student housing, as this was a new area for us to work in.
A team of rischegroup experts took on the project, which required us to make some minor structural modifications to the building, involving the creation of solid stud partition to create the rooms and en-suites, as well as kitchen, plumbing and electrical installations.
It was important to Accrue that the accommodation met all the criteria of Manchester’s student community, and our main goal was to design appealing, versatile and value-for-money housing that would be able to withstand the typical lifestyle of both undergraduates and postgraduates.
This involved a lot of research on our part, which was conducted to find out which materials and designs would appeal to students; close attention was paid to furniture, soft furnishings and art, with a wall covering of Manchester’s landmarks featuring prominently in the common room.
Following the completion of the final phase of the project, we were more than happy to further assist, providing additional signage, furniture and soft furnishings. The project was so successful that it was shortlisted for Accommodation Scheme of the Year at the Insider Property Awards in 2013.
